Some of the most important things start simply. Cheshire Men’s Group began on 2nd November 2023 when four men came together with a straightforward but powerful idea: that men deserve a safe, welcoming place where they can talk honestly, feel genuinely supported, and be treated as equals.
No fanfare. No funding application. No grand launch event. Just four men, a simple belief, and the conviction that it was worth doing.
Word spread naturally – through conversations, through local networks, through men telling other men they’d found something that actually helped. Today, Cheshire Men’s Group receives referrals from social prescribers, local community organisations and employment support programmes, each of them recognising the value of what we offer and trusting us with the men they support.
We’re proud of that trust. And we work hard every week to make sure it’s well placed.
We believe that men are more likely to struggle in silence than to ask for help – and that this silence costs lives. Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK. Behind that statistic are sons, brothers, fathers and friends who didn’t feel they had anywhere to turn.
Cheshire Men’s Group exists to change that, one conversation at a time.
We don’t make it complicated. No clinical language, no assessment forms, no waiting lists. Just a regular meeting, a friendly face, and the knowledge that whatever you’re carrying, you don’t have to carry it alone.
We collaborate with Cheshire West Voluntary Action and a growing number of local organisations that share our vision for stronger, healthier communities. Through these partnerships we can reach more men, offer better support, and continue developing what we do.
We began in Winsford. Our ambition is a Cheshire Men’s Group in every town in Cheshire that needs one. If you’d like to help make that happen – whether by volunteering, by referring someone, or by helping us set up a group in your area – we’d love to hear from you.
