What actually happens?

If you’ve never been to anything like this before, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about it. Most men who come for the first time tell us they weren’t quite sure what to expect. This page is here to give you a straight answer.

Do I have to talk?

No. You can come, grab a drink, listen, and leave. There is absolutely no pressure to share anything you’re not ready for. Some men take a few sessions before they feel comfortable joining the conversation – that is completely fine and entirely normal. Showing up is enough.

Is it a therapy group?

No. Cheshire Men’s Group is not a clinical or therapeutic service. No counsellors or clinicians are running the sessions. What there is, is a group of men supporting one another as human beings – honestly, openly, and without judgment.

If someone does need professional support, we can help point them in the right direction. But the group itself is peer-led and informal.

Who else goes?

Men of all ages and backgrounds. Some are going through a difficult time; a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, job stress, loneliness. Others just wanted to get out of the house and meet people. There is no single type of man who comes, and there is no minimum level of struggle required to walk through the door.

What happens in a typical session?

Sessions are relaxed and conversational. There is no agenda, no set topic and no homework. People talk about what’s on their mind. Conversations can be serious, funny, mundane or meaningful – often all four in the same evening. The point is that men are in a room together, talking honestly, and that matters more than it sounds.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself. There is nothing to sign, nothing to prepare and nothing to pay. Showing up is the only requirement.

What if I only come once?

That’s absolutely fine. There is no commitment and no pressure to keep coming. We’d love to see you again, but we’ll never chase you.

What if I know someone there?

We understand. Confidentiality is something every member understands and respects. What is shared in the room stays in the room.
